About Thinkage Ltd.

Much of Thinkage's software was designed and implemented by the Software Development Group of the University of Waterloo. A change in university policy led to an amicable separation in 1991, when the personnel of SDG left UW to form Thinkage Ltd. Thinkage assumed ownership of SDG's software, and benefited from the longstanding business relationships that SDG had developed, particularly with Bull and General Electric.

Since its creation as an independent company, Thinkage has continued to upgrade existing software assets while adding to our product line, especially using the Internet expertise acquired while part of the university and Windows NT know-how developed in various software projects on that system.

Thinkage specializes in the development of system software tools. Major clients for our software are located in the U.S. and Europe. Clients include Bull HN International, Bull SA, and General Electric Information Systems.

The majority of our revenue comes from software packages licensed to vendors who then market and distribute the software. Thinkage also consults with other software organizations, reviewing designs and offering suggestions for improvement. In addition, Thinkage offers its services for technical writing, and has several trade books to its credit.

Research Interests

Areas of expertise include the design and implementation of compilers (C, Pascal, Lisp, Ada, and others), electronic mail products, and productivity tools. Thinkage has developed software for such systems as GCOS8, Mark III, Linux, UNIX, and Windows NT/2000/XP.

Custom Programming Services

We consider ourselves the software equivalent of tool-and-die makers: we make specialized tools for other computer professionals so that they can do their work more productively.

This means that we have extensive experience in programming language design, operating system enhancements, and programming tools. Furthermore, we're ready to tackle assignments outside of the mainstream -- unlike other consultants who only know one platform (for example, people who have never even touched a computer that didn't run Windows), we know a lot of different systems and are happy to learn more.

Everyone at Thinkage knows how to read a manual...and we're pretty good at writing manuals too.
